Here is this weeks Booking Through Thursday :
Suggested by Nithin:
I’ve always wondered what other people do when they come across a word/phrase that they’ve never heard before. I mean, do they jot it down on paper so they can look it up later, or do they stop reading to look it up on the dictionary/google it or do they just continue reading and forget about the word?
In English, I just keep reading most of the time. I also play games like Match Up (scroll down on the right hand side of this blog) to test my word savvy. I will look a word up later, when I am close to a dictionary but only if I remember it.
In French, if I own the book, I underline the word, look it up and write the definition in the margin. I’ve learned a lot of words that way.
Happy reading!
This makes sense… having different reading habits for different languages. Thanks for participating!
I play at http://www.freerice.com to work on my vocabulary. If I’m reading, I won’t usually stop for a word.
writer2b: Thanks for the hello.
maree: I have heard about freerice. It’s a charity site, isn’t it? Must check that out.
Yep; for every correct definition, they donate 20 grains of rice to the UN World Hunger Programme. It’s very addictive to play.
