Pros:
– Supportive community (if you invest in it e.g. participate)
– People from all sorts of backgrounds: amateurs, hobbyists, self-pubbed, traditionally-pubbed to be part of the learning journey
– Chance to be published traditionally through WP (teeny tiny)
– Continuous feedback (Provided you fulfil #1)
– Established fanbase for if the author chooses to self-publish (or traditionally publish) at a later date
– Good place to seek alpha readers that represent the average (teenage/young adult) reading market
Cons:
– Very little chance of being discovered – and therefore build a reader base – unless fulfils certain criteria (e.g. popular genre, caters to 13-18 y/o females)
– Easily disillusioned (depends on individual) of what makes a success due to disparities between genuine real-world successes and Wattpad successes
– Community comprises young people so can be isolating for adults
– Potential barrier to publishing (whether self- or traditionally) in the future if work has already been seen on Wattpad before
