Secret Writing Opportunity
These tutti frutti houses are clues to a new writing opportunity I’ve been auditioning for. To date, I’ve had to fill out an application and write paragraphs of fiction on a strict time limit, according to surprise instructions.
After making it to the second round, I submitted a pitch for a series of novels. If accepted, I will collaborate as part of a story studio writing books and pitching stories to Hollywood, television, and beyond. Normally, I wouldn’t be excited about a work-for-hire contract, but the folks behind this are special. In exchange for surrendering my rights to the works, I will get paid and published; but the real attraction is working with such a talented bunch. At the very least, I will get professional feedback on the pitch I submitted today. Many writers would pay for that chance.
Writing on Medium
On July 11, 2022, I posted my first article to Medium. It’s a paid blogging platform I discovered by reading SF author Cory Doctorow’s posts. Since then, I’ve enjoyed stretching journalistic muscles that haven’t been used in years. It has inspired me to take a course in web writing in the same way my novels inspired me to take an editing course. I’m as compulsive about learning as I am about reading.
So far, the pay is microscopic but should grow over time. It’s unsure this new writing opportunity will be worth the time stolen away from fiction writing, because every new platform comes with an opportunity cost.
When I launched my original Cerealboxreader website, part of the attraction was interacting with book bloggers all over the world. Since the internet got too crowded for that, blogging on Medium has brought back some of that social interaction.
Medium Stories List
Medium is the largest blogging platform in the world and a magnet for fresh new voices. It attracts over 100 million readers in an active and engaged community. Here is the full List of my Medium Stories. Peruse this growing collection to find posts on everything from AI assisted art, writing prompts, and musings on money; to the story of how Dr. Who helped me overcome grief. There is comedy, drama, how-to articles, and more.
Do you like reading about creativity, news, technology, productivity, entrepreneurship, and life? If you decide to join Medium using my special link, you can read all my stories plus thousands of others. A portion of your membership fee will go to support my writing at no extra cost to you.
Website Update
The last new writing opportunity I wanted to mention is a website revamp. I started my first online journal in 2006 on Blogger. When I created this website, I ported my Blogger articles here and kept writing. Like any elderly website, there are broken links and old posts that need pruning. Bit-by-bit, I will be revisiting old posts, updating articles, and deleting the deadwood. I hope you will like the results.
